This tutorial introduces workflow management as an application of Petri nets and shows some results on modeling and analysis of workflows. We first introduce the concepts of workflows and show the concepts of workflows can be mapped to Petri nets. Then we demonstrate that actual workflows can be modeled with Petri nets and show that the models can be used for the performance evaluation of the workflows. We also introduce the problem of dynamic changes which is one of the major research topics for workflow management and describe a Petri-nets-based approach for the problem.
